En busca del lince 4. Looking for the lynx 4

A la mañana siguiente volvemos a tener suerte con el lince. Un individuo se deja ver cerca y se pierde a la carrera entre los matorrales.
In the next morning we were lucky with the lynx again. An individual could be seen next to us and went lost while running between the bushes.

Como otros días observamos algunas perdices y las águilas imperiales adultas se dejan ver en varias ocasiones.

Like the other days we saw some red-legged partridge and the adult Spanish imperial eagle can be seen in some occasions.

A la hora de comer bajamos a la zona de la presa, donde vemos algún cormorán grande, roquero solitario y un grupito de cabras monteses.

During the lunch time we went down to the dam area, where we were able to see some great cormorants and a group of Iberian ibex.

Después de unos momentos de relax, volvemos de nuevo a la zona de observación.

Alguien descubre un lince cruzando un camino por el valle. Después de perderle, al rato, se le relocaliza tumbado en una roca acicalándose. Al poco se pone en marcha y comienza a subir ladera arriba, hacia el camino donde nos encontramos todos los observadores.

After some minutes of resting, we went back to the observation area.

Someone discovers a lynx crossing a path in the valley. After losing it, in a while, we find it again lying on a rock and tidying itself up.

Llega a unas rocas, donde tras olisquear hace caca y continua hasta cruzar el camino, sin ser acosado por los presentes, y sigue ascendiendo ladera arriba hasta perderse. En total unos 45 minutos de observación.

It comes up to some rocks, where it defecates after sniffing around, and it continues until getting to and crossing a path, all this without being harassed by the other animals. They were 45 Minutes of observation in total.

Para finalizar la jornada, cuando ya nos dirigíamos hacia la furgo, un acentor común posa cercano en lo alto de un lentisco.

At the end of the day, when we were heading to the van, a dunnock perches near us on top of a Mastic.

En busca del lince. Looking for the Lynx

Un año más, varios miembros de Anapri emprendimos viaje a tierras andaluzas para disfrutar del felino más amenazado del mundo, el hermoso y maravilloso lince ibérico. Partimos de Colmenar Viejo como a las 8:00 de la mañana del día 7 de enero, con la intención de llegar al mediodía y poder hacer una primera espera en esa misma tarde. Nada más llegar a la zona, ya tenían controlada a una pareja lejana que descansaba entre la vegetación, después de haber brindado a los presentes un par de cópulas. Colocamos nuestro telescopio y los pudimos observar. La hembra tumbada, y el macho moviéndose a su alrededor, para de nuevo ocultarse en la vegetación. Así estuvieron varias horas, hasta que finalmente la pareja se puso en pie y se perdieron por una pequeña vaguada.
Once again this year, some members of Anapri travelled to Andalusia to find and be able to enjoy the most endangered cat in the world, the beautiful and wonderful Iberian lynx. We departure from Colmenar Viejo at 8 am on January the 7th, with the idea of arriving there during the afternoon and being able to do a first stalk right on that evening. When we arrived to the area, an outlying couple, which was resting among some bushes, was already being monitored, after the present people had already seen them copulating for a couple of times. We set our telescope and were able to watch them. The female was lying and the male was moving around. Afterwards they disappeared within the vegetation. They were doing the same for some hours and then they stood up and disappeared in a trough.

Aprovechamos esas horas de tranquilidad y poco movimiento para comer, sin dejar de mirar a nuestro alrededor.  La luna se dejaba ver temprano y en unas rocas altas a nuestra espalda, un par de chovas piquirrojas se posaban y reclamaban durante varios minutos.

We used these quiet hours with little movement to eat, always looking around us. The moon came out early and above some tall rocks behind us a couple of red-billed choughs perched and called for some minutes.

Entre los lentiscos se alimentaban mirlos, y currucas cabecinegras y capirotadas. También pudimos descubrir a algún acentor común.

Some blackbirds, Sardinian warblers and Eurasian blackcaps fed on between the mastics. We were also able to see some dunnocks.

Mientras, en el cielo, volaban varios buitres leonados y negros y nuestro compi Arsenio pudo fotografiar fugazmente a este juvenil de águila imperial.

During this time, griffo and cinereous vultures were flying around and our mate Arsenio was able to take pictures of this young Iberian imperial eagle.

Por el extenso valle se veían bastantes ciervos, algunos gamos y la presa favorita del lince, el conejo, correteaba por los claros del bien conservado monte mediterráneo.

En muchas ocasiones nos acompañaba también el canto de las abundantes perdices.

Along the wide valley many red and fallow deer and Lynx favourite prey: rabbits could be seen. The rabbits were moving around the so well preserved Mediterranean forest.

Many times we were joined by the calls of the abundant red-legged partridge.

El día tocaba a su fín y nos retiramos hacia el alojamiento con la alegría de un buen día de campo, pero con la esperanza de poder hacer mejores observaciones de lince en los días venideros.

The day came to an end and we headed toward our accommodation, with the joy of a great day in the field but also with the hope of being able to watch the lynx better during the following days.
